Whiston Parish Hall’s solar panel installation

Whiston Parish Hall’s solar panel installation

In this video, we visit Whiston Parish Hall in Rotherham to find out more about their new solar panel installation. We speak with Tony Griffin, Chairman of Whiston Parish Council, about the project, why the Parish Council decided to invest in solar energy, and the benefits the installation will bring to the hall and the local community.

From reducing energy costs to making better use of renewable energy, this project is an exciting step towards a more sustainable future for Whiston Parish Hall. Watch the interview to hear directly from Tony Griffin about the project and what it means for the community.

Why did Whiston Parish Council invest in solar panels?

For community organisations and parish councils, managing operating costs is increasingly important. Energy is one of the unavoidable expenses involved in running a public building, and fluctuations in energy prices can make it difficult to predict future costs. Installing solar panels gives organisations like Whiston Parish Council an opportunity to generate some of their own electricity on site rather than relying entirely on electricity from the grid.

For Whiston Parish Hall, the project is about more than simply installing solar panels on the roof. It represents a longer-term investment in the building and the community it serves. By generating renewable electricity, the hall can make better use of the available roof space while potentially reducing the amount of electricity it needs to purchase from the grid.

A model for other community buildings

Whiston Parish Hall is just one example of what community organisations can achieve by looking at their buildings differently. Across the UK, parish halls, village halls, community centres and charitable organisations are facing similar challenges of rising running costs, ageing buildings and the need to become more sustainable. Solar panels can be part of the solution.

However, solar isn’t the only way organisations can improve the performance of their buildings. Combining renewable energy with measures such as insulation, energy-efficient heating, lighting improvements and smart energy management can help maximise savings and reduce energy consumption.

The right approach will depend on the building, how it is used and its existing energy requirements.
